With so many charming village halls around particularly in North and West Yorkshire, planning a bank balance friendly wedding has never been more appealing.
With the average cost of hiring a village hall between £200 and £800, its clear there are some bargains to be had!
Alongside the budget friendly price tag, opting for a village hall wedding reception means that you also have the flexibility to bring in all of your own supplier. Meaning no in house caterers or corkage fees.
Village hall weddings are great for couples with imagination and a desire to really put their own spin on things.
Creating a unique experience for their family and friends, with no cookie cutter formula, which may mean doing away with most, if not all the usual wedding traditions, in favour of their own.
Things to consider
Drinks
Some village halls already have a bar area, with others needing a mobile bar to hired in.
In both instances its important to hire in a professional bar service to ensure that guests are taken care of throughout the day.
A cash/card bar service from Tchin-Tchin bar is just £350, with guests being able to purchase their favourite drinks from the bar.
At Tchin-Tchin bar we offer drinks packages from just £16.50pp, so you can provide a selection of complimentary drinks to your guests. Including prosecco on arrival to welcome them into your wedding reception.
For couples wanting to supply all the drinks themselves, then the dry hire option means all of the drinks are chilled and served by our professional staff, with all the clean up taken care of too.
Catering – Formal or relaxed?
Your catering options are endless and depends on the overall vibe you are going for.
If keeping things traditional you’re looking at a three course meal, with canapes during the drinks reception.
But if you would like something alternative you could be looking at one of the following.
Grazing tables
Buffet style
Steet food
Pizzas
Afternoon tea
Catering can be sourced for anything between £65 - £110pp.
Coordinator - or completely DIY?
With multiple suppliers, it may be a good idea to hire someone to coordinate them on the day.
A coordinator would be able to help keep to timings and moving props or decor around when needed. For example, clearing tables to create more room on the dance floor, making announcements etc.
Alternatively, you will need to give responsibility to a member of your bridal party, so it doesn’t interrupt you having a wonderful time.
A coordinator can be hired for anything between £200 - £1000 depending on what services you require and if you decide to get help in the planning stages too.
Decor
Fairy lights or festoon lighting are a great way to decorate your village hall venue, and many of them will likely already have something in place.
Floral arrangements, candles and other decorative props can be hired in from suppliers that will deliver and install these for you.
If creating your own decor, the set-up time and clean-up will need to be factored in.
A lot of village halls give access to the venue a day or 2 before, this gives everyone enough time to get things set up without having to rush on the day of the wedding.
Bridal bouquets on average range from £120 - £200, with buttonholes between £5 - £15 each.
Floral centerpieces average between £50 - £120, with arches and other floral installations being upwards of this.
Signage can be anything between £30 - £200 and other props and decor in excess of this.
It's worth pricing up the cost of making/buying your own, versus hiring. There may be some instances where you do a mix of both.
Music
For the super organised, creative and tech loving couples, create yourself a playlist. It is a great way to have your favourite music playing in the background throughout the day. Some village halls will have a speaker system for you to plug into, if not check with family or friends before hiring one in.
Depending on your music tastes you might want a DJ or even a live band for your evening reception. Be sure to consider the logistics for both. For example, if you would like a band for your evening reception, how many members are in the band? What space does the band need? Is the hall big enough to accommodate the full band plus all the guests?
Average costs are £350 - £1500, with it being completely FREE if you decide to have just a playlist for the entire day and evening.
